Roman Catholic Simón José Antonio de la Santisima Trinidad Bolivar y Palacios Ponte y Blanco (July 24, 1783 - December 17, 1830), commonly known as Simón Bolívar (Spanish pronunciation: [simon bolißar]), was a military and political leader. Bolívar was a military commander of South America's struggle for independence which are collectively known as Bolívar war. He freed a lot of countries in South America from Spain. During his lifetime, he led Venezuela, Colombia (including Panama at the time), Ecuador, Peru (together with Don José de San Martín), and Bolivia to be free from the Spanish Empire. Family history of Bolívar's family name is derived from the Bolívar aristocrats who came from a small village in the Basque Country, Spain, called La Puebla de Bolívar. His father came from the male line of descent from the family Ardanza. His mother was a descendant of some ancestor of the family of the Canary Islands that settled in the country.
