Nuri Sahin reveals 1618 failed Arsenal negotiations and revises view on Liverpool loan BORUSSIA DORTMUND midfielder Nuri Sahin has revealed that he has been on the verge of joining Arsenal on three occasions throughout his career, including just before he joined Liverpool on loan in 2012.
The 25-year-old is currently on loan at Borussia Dortmund 1618 from Real Madrid, who he joined after winning the Bundesliga with the German 1618 club in 2011. But the Turkish international has failed to force his way into the Real first team since the move and has spent time on loan with Liverpool and back at Dortmund. But he could have just as easily been plying his trade for Arsenal, who first approached Sahin when he was still a teenager. He said: "It was very close. Three times in my career I was almost 1618 at Arsenal. It never happened, but that is normal in football. "I think I was 16 the first time and then last summer we spoke with Arsenal, but in the end I signed with Liverpool." And Sahin maintains that while he has been impressed with close pal Mesut Ozil since his move to the Emirates, he is aware that the Gunners have other threats ahead of the north London 1618 club's 1618 match against Dortmund in the Champions League on Tuesday.
He said:  "He is a great player and good friend of mine. "If you said he was the only player for Arsenal it would be disrespectful, but you can definitely say he is an important part of the team." "During a game, it doesn't matter who is against you. It is important that we have our match plan and if we manage to have our plan and play accordingly 1618 we don't have to worry about individual match-ups." Sahin also appears to have revised his opinion on his time at Liverpool after thanking God to be away from Brendan Rodgers when his loan spell at Anfield came to an end. However, he told UEFA.com : "It was a good time for me to be part of a great club like Liverpool with such history and good team-mates.
